FAQ
Kona Kai Marina berths mega-yachts and superyachts in slips from 140 to 250 feet, with a maximum beam of 60 feet and a minimum of 17 feet of water at mean lower low water. Power runs up to 480 volts. As the closest marina to the open ocean in San Diego Bay, it has no bridges between the docks and the Pacific, so there are no air-draft limits on the run out. Crews get valet parking, reserved spots, and card-gated dock access, along with the amenities of the Kona Kai San Diego Resort. The marina is also next to the Shelter Island U.S. Customs clearance point for vessels arriving from abroad. Call 619-224-7547 to arrange a berth.
Mega-yacht slips run from 140 to 250 feet, with a maximum beam of 60 feet and a minimum of 17 feet of water at mean lower low water, so a deep-draft hull is not a problem. The wider marina holds 520 slips from 30 feet up, including K Dock tidal side ties, end ties and single slips. Before you apply, email the marina team the make, year and length overall of the vessel with current photos. The team confirms the boat can be safely accommodated before a slip is assigned, and proof of insurance is required.
Shore power runs 30 amp at 110 volts, 50 amp at 220 volts, and 100 amp at either 208 volts single and three phase or 480 volts three phase, so a large vessel can draw the load it needs. The marina does not offer pump-out service. Trash and recycling bins are at each gate. Every slip has an individual water outlet and a dock box. Water and garbage service are included in the slip fee, and electricity is billed at the current San Diego Gas & Electric rate per kilowatt hour.
Yes. The marina is adjacent to the U.S. Customs clearance facilities on Shelter Island, which is the practical reason many owners running a Southern California to Mexico cycle base here. The boater resources page carries a vessel entry clearance procedures document you can read before you sail, along with a channel chart map. Customs can be reached at 619-685-4304 and the U.S. Coast Guard at 619-278-7262. Because there are no bridges between the docks and the Pacific, the run in and out carries no air-draft limit.
Yes. Transient dockage is $200 a day for vessels under 45 feet and $5 per foot per day over 45 feet, with a two-day minimum that counts the day you arrive and the day you leave. A transient berth carries the resort’s main pool, beach, gym and steam rooms and a discount at Vessel Restaurant + Bar, and the marina offers a room discount if crew would rather sleep ashore. Mega-yacht slips include valet parking and reserved spots, and tenant parking is gated. Proof of insurance is required and payment is taken by card.
